Description
François Ducrot Rouge Pétard is a natural, dry red made exclusively from Aramon, an indigenous grape once widespread in Languedoc and now increasingly rare. Sourced from 20–40-year-old vines grown on silt and limestone soils, the grapes are destemmed and fermented with native yeasts before ageing for nine months in stainless steel, with no added sulphites.
In the glass, the wine shows a pale ruby to light garnet colour. The nose is bright and inviting, with aromas of fresh cherry, subtle spice, and a hint of white pepper. On the palate, crisp acidity and light tannins give gentle structure, while the finish remains fresh, juicy, and invigorating.
Despite being a red, Rouge Pétard drinks almost like a rosé vibrant, playful, and highly refreshing. Ideal served lightly chilled, it pairs beautifully with charcuterie, grilled pork, fresh cheeses, or seasonal vegetables.
François Ducrot is a small, independent natural winemaker working in the south of France with a focus on purity, drinkability, and minimal intervention. His wines are crafted from organically farmed vineyards, using native yeasts, gentle extraction, and little to no added sulphur.
Ducrot has a particular affinity for overlooked and indigenous grape varieties, such as Aramon, aiming to revive their freshness and character in a modern, expressive style. His wines are light, vibrant, and approachable, made to be enjoyed young, shared easily, and drunk without ceremony, while remaining true to their terroir and natural origins.
