History
Quinta da Calçada, situated in the heart of the Vinho Verde region in Amarante, has been owned by the da Mota family since 1917. As one of the oldest producers of Vinho Verde, the winery is dedicated to crafting high-quality still and sparkling wines that reflect the tradition and excellence of the region.
Regional Information
Nestled in northwest Portugal, the picturesque Vinho Verde region is renowned for its signature fresh and vibrant wines. The rolling hills provide diverse microclimates, and the abundant rainfall combined with the Atlantic influence fosters lush, green landscapes. The grapes benefit from a longer growing season, promoting gradual ripening, which results in wines with high natural acidity and distinct aromatics.
Vinification Details
The grapes are destemmed and lightly pressed, with the juice flowing into gravity-fed tanks. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel at cool temperatures to preserve the wine's freshness. Varzea do Marão, a stunning mountainous area on the eastern border of the Vinho Verde region, showcases the cool influence of the Atlantic, contributing to the wine’s crisp character and unique appeal.
